Telus is now offering some Public Mobile customers a new 5G migration plan for $24/month that includes 60GB of data. This plan is designed to incentivize existing Public Mobile users to switch to Telus’s 5G network. However, it’s not a plan that everyone can get as the offer is targeted towards a specific group of Public Mobile customers.

In order to be eligible for the plan, Public Mobile users need to be subscribed to a select group of plans. Specifically, these plans are the current $24/month and $36/month offerings that include 60GB and 80GB of data respectively. Public Mobile customers subscribed to these plans have started receiving notifications in their Public Mobile apps suggesting the $24/month plan with 60GB of 5G data.

For existing users subscribed to the $36/month 80GB plan, they’ll get a reduced data amount to 60GB in exchange for a price reduction down to $24/month. This option essentially combines the best aspects of the $24/month plan, offering 60GB of data for $24 while migrating them to Telus 5G. The option to retain the current 80GB with 5G at $36 is still available to them as well, as seen by several screenshots shared on the forum. Users can also move to other data options within the Public Mobile app, including a data-only plan at $20/month that provides 5GB of 5G data.

For those Public Mobile users subscribed to the $24/month 60GB plan, the switch offers the opportunity to upgrade to 5G for free. Essentially, you can get 5G connectivity for $24/month. This option also offers additional features and functionalities through the Telus network, like features for businesses such as Telus Business Connect or other services for consumers such as Telus Optik TV, including the 5G connectivity.

This initiative showcases the benefits of upgrading to 5G and could incentivize more users to join the network. Telus already offers other services in addition to the standard public data. Their mobile service already has more users compared to Bell or Rogers. This latest campaign provides users with a greater data value compared to what they might get from a standalone service.

Ultimately, this initiative may increase interest in 5G data connectivity and help transition some users onto the Telus network. The strategy behind offering this to a smaller subset of customers is likely focused on gathering user feedback and refining their approach to future migration programs for larger customer segments.
