Liam Payne’s 1D bandmates, James Corden and more friends and musicians mourn singer
Liam Payne’s former bandmates, fellow musicians, and celebrity friends have taken to social media to offer their condolences to the singer’s family and share their grief following the news of his father’s passing.
Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, sadly died on June 25. He was known for being Liam’s biggest fan, with the former One Direction star even dedicating a song, “Strip That Down”, to him in 2017.
On July 3, Liam announced the devastating news of his father’s death via Instagram, sharing a series of photos of them together.
“It is with great sadness that I have to share the news of my dad’s passing last week. He has been ill for a while and after a short stay in the hospital, he finally got to rest in the presence of his family. The doctors, nurses and hospice team have been absolutely incredible.
“They gave him incredible love and support during such a difficult time for all of us and for that we are truly thankful. We were so lucky to have him as our dad. He is the reason for my music, my smile and the man I am today. He was my rock, my guiding light and the man I’ll always be striving to be. Rest well my dad, I love you.”
Fellow One Direction member Niall Horan was one of the first to publicly offer his condolences, simply commenting: “So sorry to hear about your dad Liam. My thoughts are with you all” with a heartbroken emoji on Liam’s post.
Louis Tomlinson commented: “Sending you lots of love Li Thinking of you and your family.”
Liam and Zayn Malik have not been known to be on the best terms in recent years. However, Malik posted on Liam’s tribute, simply writing “Thoughts with you Liam” alongside a heartbroken emoji.
Harry Styles hasn’t yet publicly shared his condolences online. The singer is believed to be touring with his band right now in North America.
Also sending Liam their condolences are British comedian James Corden, former Spice Girl Melanie Brown and fellow musician Jax Jones.
“So incredibly sorry to hear this Liam. Sending you & the family the biggest of hugs.” Corden wrote.
“My deepest condolences to you Liam. Your father sounds like a very special man,” Melanie Brown commented on his post.
“So sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad Liam,” DJ Jax Jones posted. “My condolences to you and your family”
It is understood that Liam and his father’s relationship was incredibly close and his passing is sure to hit the singer very hard.
