## This Humanoid Robot Could Build Your Next Mercedes
Forget assembly lines, the future of car manufacturing may be filled with robots.
Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Agility Robotics, a company specializing in humanoid robots, to develop a new robotic worker for its car factories. The robot, named “Digit,” stands about 5’8″, resembling a futuristic delivery person, with articulated limbs capable of handling tasks typically performed by humans.
Digit can walk, grasp, and manipulate objects with dexterity, allowing it to work alongside human colleagues on complex assembly tasks. The robots can operate within tight spaces and perform intricate movements, potentially accelerating production time and improving efficiency.
While Mercedes hasn’t revealed specific details about how Digit will be deployed, its potential impact on the industry is significant. This partnership signals a shift towards automation in manufacturing, potentially creating new roles for human workers as technology handles more manual tasks.
“The automotive industry is in a phase of dramatic transformation,” said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, responsible for production and supply chains. “Digit has the potential to become a vital asset in our flexible and resilient manufacturing operations.”
As Digit rolls onto the production line, it promises to change how we think about the future of car manufacturing and bring the idea of human-robot collaboration closer to reality.
