## I Was Astounded by This New ‘Tri-Foldable’ Phone… and Skeptical, Too

I was astounded by this new ‘tri-foldable’ phone… and skeptical, too.

The first thing I noticed was the phone’s unusual design. It was a long, rectangular phone that folded in half, both lengthwise and in the middle. This made the phone incredibly compact when folded. I could fit it comfortably in my pocket or a small purse. When unfolded, it became a sprawling tablet. I’m not sure this is necessarily a *bad* thing.

In my testing, it felt well-built and sturdy when closed. It did *feel* a little fragile when unfolded but, let’s be honest, folding phones always do. While this feels incredibly intuitive at first, it’s going to take time to get used to this form factor.

The next thing I was struck by was its responsiveness. The phone’s software felt snappy and smooth, even when I was multitasking between multiple applications. I did not have the chance to play demanding games, which I will try out in the coming weeks. The 4k display was a definite upgrade from my current foldable and did impress with its color reproduction and clarity.

The company I spoke to said it was a great product, which of course it did, as this device represents an “evolution in design.” And when a device represents a huge change like that, I was wondering how long it’d last.

At first blush, the phone is impressive with the amount of tech packed in, and I expect it to continue its positive reception when it’s publicly released. But I worry that if its use case isn’t immediately obvious, or if consumers continue to feel a hesitancy to buy folding phones due to durability concerns, it won’t be able to make that leap beyond what has come before.

We need more time to experience the phone. The initial review, it was, well, impressive. However, the jury’s out until people start using it every day for a variety of different things, including things it was not designed for.

Is it too early to declare a “folding phone revolution”? Only time will tell, but after having a few hours with the phone, I’m cautiously optimistic.
