ITCZ, easterlies will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains over parts of PH
The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday.
In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said that the ITCZ is affecting the Visayas and Mindanao, while the easterlies are affecting the rest of Luzon.
These weather systems are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over:
- Metro Manila
- Central Luzon
- CALABARZON
- MIMAROPA
- Bicol Region
- Western Visayas
- Eastern Visayas
- Zamboanga Peninsula
- Northern Mindanao
- Davao Region
- SOCCSKSARGEN
- Caraga
Meanwhile, PAGASA said that the rest of Luzon and the rest of Visayas are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies.
The ITCZ is a belt of low pressure that forms near the equator. It is a zone of convergence, where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere meet. The convergence of these winds results in an uplift of air, which can lead to the formation of clouds and precipitation.
The easterlies are trade winds that blow from the east. They are caused by the Coriolis effect, which is a phenomenon that deflects moving objects, such as air currents, to the right in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere.
PAGASA advises the public to be prepared for possible flash floods or landslides during heavy rains, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
