Apple unveils a mighty but mini new iPad and it’s coming to the UK next week
Apple has unveiled a new iPad, and it’s small. But don’t let its diminutive size fool you – this thing is a powerhouse.
The new iPad mini is now powered by the M1 chip, which Apple says makes it the most powerful iPad mini ever. The chip is the same one found in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and even the iPad Pro.
That means the iPad mini is now capable of handling tasks that would have been impossible on its predecessor, like running complex 3D games, editing videos, or creating professional-level art. You’ll be able to make use of those creative tools on its upgraded 8.3-inch display. This boasts Liquid Retina, True Tone, and an anti-reflective coating for a more natural and vibrant visual experience, particularly great for things like comics and ebooks.
In a rare change for Apple’s tablet, it has also gotten a brand new look. With slimmer bezels, the new iPad mini features a much larger display in the same footprint as the previous model. The device will be offered in four different colors: space gray, pink, purple, and starlight. These color options look really modern and chic, meaning you’ll want to be seen with this little iPad. And because of its compact size, it’s not going to be difficult to carry around at all.
For the first time ever, the iPad mini comes with a USB-C port. It also comes with a new front-facing camera that supports Center Stage, meaning that it can automatically keep you in the center of the frame during video calls, even if you move around.
Other key features include:
- 5G connectivity (depending on model)
- Improved battery life (up to 10 hours)
- Updated 12MP rear camera
- Support for the second-generation Apple Pencil (optional)
- Starting price of £499
The new iPad mini is available for pre-order now and will be available in stores on September 24.
But what does it actually mean for users?
Well, this update is all about increasing functionality. With the new iPad mini, you are no longer just getting a casual tablet – you can actually use this as a work-at-home alternative. Imagine it as a mini laptop, offering that user-friendliness we know and love about iPads, and power that is definitely above-average.
So, while we all love to see a new shiny iPad, and this one is definitely that, you can now truly appreciate the iPad mini as a powerful, portable and efficient device – and it’s a great step for Apple in its evolution.
