Razakars burned down Kharge’s family’: UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s direct attack on Congress chief over appeasement politics

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of pursuing appeasement politics and equating him with the Razakars, a paramilitary force that operated in the erstwhile Hyderabad state.

Speaking at a rally in Bahraich, Adityanath said, “I am sorry to say, the people who raised slogans against our national anthem and even burned down the home of our Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s family… they are the ones who are opposing the ‘bhoomi pujan’ (groundbreaking ceremony) of Ram temple. This is a sign of appeasement.”

The Razakars, a private militia, were known for their brutality and intimidation tactics against Hindus in the Hyderabad state. Their activities came to an end in 1948, when the state was merged with India. Adityanath’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.

Adityanath’s comments were immediately met with criticism from Congress leaders. Party spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “The BJP is desperately trying to stoke communal tensions in order to distract from the real issues. Their comments are irresponsible and inflammatory. We urge the BJP to focus on the welfare of the people instead of dividing them along communal lines.”

Kharge himself had recently called out the BJP for indulging in communalism. “It is very sad that the BJP is resorting to such tactics. This is not a democracy, this is fascism. We will not be deterred. We will fight back,” he had said.

Adityanath’s remarks come in the backdrop of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The state is witnessing a high-pitched political campaign with the BJP, the Congress, and other parties vying for power.

The BJP has been trying to position itself as a strong advocate for Hindus, and its leaders often make statements that are perceived to be communal. The party has also been targeting the Congress, accusing it of appeasement politics.

The Congress, on the other hand, has been trying to position itself as a party that stands for unity and harmony. It has also been trying to expose the BJP’s hypocrisy on the issue of communalism.

It remains to be seen how Adityanath’s remarks will impact the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh. It is also likely to fuel further debate on the issue of communalism in Indian politics.
